Just found out about the new album(s) from a friend, such great news!

I absolutely cannot wait for this tour. Hopefully there's a stop in Austin, TX (we love our music here!) but if not I'm driving to the nearest city.

Sadly, I haven't had the privilege of seeing them perform.

It's weird actually. I remember being in high school and seeing the Fade Into You video. I absolutely loved the song, but for whatever reason, never got into the band. Guess it was that high school mentality/peer pressure thing. For the most part, I was into hard rock and some metal, so I thought it wasn't cool to follow up on it.

Fast forward to a few years ago. I was doing a business stint in Dallas Fort Worth and decided to pick up some CD's. I happened to pass by So Tonight I Might See. I remembered loving Fade Into You and decided to pick it up. Holy crap, I was hooked. Within two weeks, I made it a mission to find the first and third album. Then a short while later, I ordered Bavarian Fruit Bread and the Suzanne EP.

Out of nothing, Mazzy went from a one hit wonder to one of my favorite bands ... and Hope jumped up to my favorite vocalist. At that point, I promised myself that if I had the chance, I would do whatever it takes to see her perform live.

Fast forward to last week. I'm in the midst of closing on a house, when I find out a number of my friends are going on a cruise and would like my to accompany them. I tell them I need to work the numbers. While I know I can afford it, I wanted to make sure it was a responsible thing to do. As I'm mulling it over, I randomly decided to see if there were any updates at Hope's site. My heart nearly stopped. :D

I decided then and there. I'm not going to go on the cruise (note, this wasn't easy ... there are 3 sisters I know going on the cruise ... all single, and very attractive). Instead, I'm allocating the money towards going to this tour if I can. I'm fully prepared to fly to where I need to be (hopefully, at least two shows), in order to accomplish this.

I'm from Toronto, Canada and I'm so elated to hear about the album. The last time I saw Hope was when she played at Lee's Palace in Toronto. I remembered her stopping and saying 'hey, people in the back..shut up".
It's going to be shit hot when she gets back on tour, for sure.

Here's a vote for the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, MA. It's small, intimate, seats only a few hundred, and musicians love to play there because the accoustics are miraculous.

Please come to New England, Hope!

wow, i had already made amends thinking that she was never going to release another album much less tour; i couldnt believe me eyes when i saw it, hell i STILL cant believe it! Im not going to be greedy and beg them to play my city cause well, that would just be dumb to play in San Antonio. but if anyone here wants to join me, im gonna try my very best to make the cork, ireland show. I hope she comes to play in Atlanta, but I'm seriously doubting it if the last tour is an indicator. I wonder where the best venue would be to catch her show... New York, maybe?

Just off of the top of my head I'd think that L.A. would be one of the best places to see her live, being that she lives there. There's a good new band called Space Waves that is doing three shows in L.A. in September, they do a really good cover of Mazzy's "Bells Ring".

Part of the reason that she's playing in Ireland could have to do with her collaboration with My Bloody Valentine's drummer on the last Warm Intentions album. He was born in Dublin.

Wow, another show in Ireland. I hope that she doesn't tour the same way as Trespassers Willam, another of my favorite bands. They put out an album, announced a tour, and the tour amounted to four U.S. dates on the west coast, then almost two full months in Europe. Nothing against these bands touring in Europe, I just hope that Hope remembers to get some U.S. dates in as well. It's been a long time!

i saw Hope on 13th September 2002 at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London, UK...

i'd been listening to the 'Bavarian' CD non-stop since someone gave me a copy the previous year, travelled hundreds of miles & spent a lot of money to be there...

the band came on late (about 10pm), played in near darkness & Hope didn't speak to the audience even once...but it was worth it !

her voice makes me cry (but then i AM a girl !)

can't wait to hear the new CD & to see if she tours over here again... :)

When I saw Hope with Mazzy Star in 1996 she didn't say a word the entire show then either. In fact, I really don't recall here even looking at the audience during the songs. She mostly sang with her eyes closed and during the instrumentals she mostly looked down at the floor. But, it was a great show and it is called "shoegaze." I remember reading a magazine interview around that time where she said that she doesn't feel comfortable on stage.

just bought a ticket for london. i tried booking online and the website was asking me to become a member of the southbank centre in order to buy the ticket at a cost of £25 extra on top of the ticket price. phoned up the box office and managed to avoid this charge...

it seems to be selling quickly - i was surprised that i could only get the rear of the stalls.....but at least, i'll be there and will get to see a show....just hoping that they also play a bit nearer to me.

if anyone is travelling to the show from the midlands that might want to share a lift/petrol money, let me know...

I'll let you know how it goes.

How did you get tickets for Galway, i phoned the Roisin Dubh and the guy just said they will be on the
web site when available "Just Keep Checkin' Man" he says. He obviously doesn't understand the worries of a ticketless fan who missed out on tickets for the Pixies and The Specials already this year.
I am going to Cork and Galway if i get a ticket.

If you check out the High Road Touring website http://www.highroadtouring.com/tour/ and scroll down to Hope Sandoval you can see there is a possible performance listed for Milwaukee, WI, on 4 October 2009 at 8 PM.

The performance is listed as TBA with approval. I checked out the Pabst Theater calendar http://www.pabsttheater.org/calendar.html and nothing is listed ... yet. Perhaps this is just a pipe dream but one can hope she will have some North American performances this year!

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I don't know the deal with the Milwaukee show, but there's a show at the Fillmore that has a ticket sale date so if anyone's in the bay area check it out here:
http://www.livenation.com/artist/hope-sandoval-tickets

What puzzles me is why it's taking so long to get north american shows listed. I mean, it's not as though she's been overly busy with new matriel or constant touring all these years. I have a bad feeling that the north american tour will be short, probably just west coast dates such as this San Fran. show. Trespassers William really disappointed me by doing four shows on the west coast and then two months in Europe so I guess that I'm expecting it again. There are alot of fans in north america that have been waitng a long time, hopefully we won't get passed by.

Umbilical,

Your information about the performance at The Fillmore inspired me to check at Ticketmaster. To my surprise, there is another concert scheduled for The Red Room on 22 September 2009 in Vancouver, BC. The Timbre Productions website http://www.timbreproductionsconcerts.com/?page=vancouver shows that tickets went on sale this past Saturday, 15 August 2009.

I certainly hope that North American enthusiasts will not be forced to scour the Internet for our concert dates. But it looks like three shows in North America.

Anybody else find additional dates?

Wow, a show scheduled and tickets have already gone on sale. I guess we'll have to keep checking local venues, checking on dates found by other board members etc. to find out about shows. I wonder how much advertising was done for the three north american shows in newspapers, radio stations etc.?

so looking foward to the Denver, CO gig. saw Hope here in 2001 at the Ogden Theatre and it left an impression on me. didn't know if they (she) would ever come back. I will be there Oct. 1st at The Bluebird Theatre which is THE best venue in all of Denver. dig the new single, can't wait for the album. we have missed you Hope, welcome back.

That's a sad tour for someone gone for so long. For all the time that so many people waited for new matriel, that's the best that she can do? If that's all the interest she has for her long time fans, she can keep her album.

Hey, Believer! Thanks for the additional information on the show scheduled in Pennsylvania: it is much appreciated.

As far as the length or quality of this new tour, it is important to remember that Hope does not care for live performances. Not everyone enjoys the spotlight - as I share the same attitude. Despite this, the music is still awesome! When you combine the North American dates on the website and this additional date in Pennsylvania, there are fifteen performances to equal the number of North American appearnaces on the 2002 tour.

As potential additional shows are announced, all we can do now is to make our arrangements. I shall be in Milwaukee on 3 October for a family trip, so the show at the Pabst Theater is a done deal. After that, I am leaning towards the shows in Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. Are three shows enough? Maybe Atlanta, too ...

Hollywood Forever Cemetery....

Postby SoftDevil » Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:22 pm

... I have to say, I was totally wrong about my guesses on where she'd play in L.A. I thought maybe The Wiltern, or The Henry Ford Theatre, etc.... But The Hollywood Forever Cemetery was the furthest venue from my imagination! Last time I was there was to watch "The Exorcist" under the stars (and above the [deceased] stars). LOL!

I was hoping there would be more around the Bay Area like the last tour had SF, Sacramento and Petaulma and we were able to catch 3 shows but this time the closest one besides SF is up near Eureka, but we may take the drive, it will be worth it! Maybe more shows will be posted?

I am trying to wrap my head around the Hollywood Forever Cemetery show.... wondering if it's going to be an outdoor show, or if there's some "theatre" or other building that might adapt as an indoor venue. All I DO know is that it is a pain in the *ss to get to, park at, and get out of!

On YELP it says that there is a Masonic Lodge at the cemetery where they have indoor concerts...It says it's small, the size of the Troubadour.

Believer, I bet that's where it will be held. Outdoors would not work there I don't think. It would be too expansive and the "intimate" feel of her shows would be lost.

Yeah... she'll play at the Masonic Lodge, for sure. Here's a video of the band Glasvegas playing there in June. Looks like the perfect venue for Hope....

Woody,
It looks like the Mod Club doesn't have them listed yet. We just have to keep clicking on "ticket" and wait for the venue to come up. Hope is not listed at the Arcata Club yet either but I emailed them and they said Tuesday their tickets would go on sale. They were "waiting to hear back from Ms. Sandoval's people" before they listed her on the website. Guess stuff is still being finalized at some of the clubs.
